Weekend on the Istrian coast. 🌊 🌊 🌊 🌊

Hello, beautiful people. These days I was traveling around Istrian coast – Croatia. I visited many lovely places. I was fascinated by the old town of Poreč and Novigrad.

Porec (Italian Parenzo) is a town on the western coast of Istria, whose center is located on a small peninsula. The town is one of the most visited places in Istria and the winner of most tourist awards and prizes in Croatia. In the vicinity of Porec, tourists can stay in other smaller tourist destinations, most notably Vrsar and Funtana. Porec is 2000 years old. The roman army transformed this village into a castrum that later became a roman colony called Colonia Iulia Parentium. Town history can be traced through numerous buildings and monuments: Euphrasian basilica (on the Unesco world heritage list), the house of two saints, pentagonal tower, the romanesque house, the great temple, the temple of Neptune, the gothic house, the Istrian council house, marafor – forum Romanum, the round tower, the Zucchato palace, etc. Porec riviera is known for its beautiful coast with natural coves that hide beautiful beaches adorned with a Mediterranean greenery. The visitors who come to this area can find all kinds of tourist accommodation, have a good time with plenty of nightlife entertainment (discos, clubs, concerts, etc.), taste dishes of traditional and contemporary cuisine, Istrian wines and olive oils in local restaurants and taverns, or take part in the active holidays through many sporting activities: biking, hiking, golf, fishing, water sports, tennis, basketball, beach volleyball, etc.

Novigrad, once a peaceful fishing town, over the years has become a compelling touristic destination. Although being so popular among tourists from all around the world, Novigrad has to this day kept its intimate and irresistible charm of a typical quite Mediterranean fishing town. Novigrad isn’t just a real architectural gem filled with astounding historical sights, rich cultural heritage and preserved natural beauty; Novigrad is also one of the top Istrian gourmet destinations where one can taste many gastronomic extravagance of the Mediterranean food. The Istrian excellent cuisine and its delights will spice up your stay and make your journey so comfortable you will for sure want to return to this charming town again.

  1. Nice post! I’m glad you enjoyed your stay in my country – Croatia 🙂
Be sure to visit my town Zagreb someday too, and my birth town Split. They are all very different and there’s a lot to do and see.
